Through the years, Greg Oliver and his Oliver Editorial Services has helped many books, officially and unofficially. He’s read books, consulted, acted as a photo editor, indexed, done layout and covers. I’m not including my years working at SPORTClassic Books here (but those are listed on my Literary Curriculum Vitae.

EDITED & LAID OUT BY …

I met Canadian Country Music Hall of Famer George Fox in April 2024 at the Toronto Sports Card Expo, and he hired me to edit and layout his book, called Trail of the Fox: A Musician’s Memoir. First we did a paperback he could sell on tour, and then came the hardcover, which is finally available for people to buy, as he struck a distribution deal even if it’s self-published. The story behind the book is in my Society for International Hockey Research column … since there’s hockey in the book!

Trail of the Fox

In the acknowledgements, George Fox wrote: “First and foremost, for his tremendous help getting things across the finish line, I would like to thank Greg Oliver. His determination in helping me edit and lay out the book—putting his full expertise (and patience, I’m sure!) towards its completion—is much appreciated.”

Howdy, Neighbor!: Stan “Plowboy” Frazier and his Appetite for Life

Howdy, Neighbor!: Stan “Plowboy” Frazier and his Appetite for Life by Kurt Nielsen was released in August 2025. My 20-year friendship with the author deserves its own page.

Upon his passing, I discovered a number of poems that my father-in-law, Bob Renwick, had written … and then some more … and even one from a 1961 McMaster University publication, so, with the help of my son/Bob’s grandson, Quinn, we put together Euphoric Descent: The collected poems of Robert Renwick.

Voiceless: Climate Change Through the Eyes of AnimalsAnother author in the family! In late May 2025, I got a copy of Voiceless: Climate Change Through the Eyes of Animals, written by my niece, Kennedy Oliver, who is just finishing up Grade 8, and lives in California. Now, did Uncle Greg help edit and layout? Sure. I get paid in hugs next time I see her. But it’s a remarkable book for someone so young, well written and researched. You too can get a copy here.

The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: Classic Characters

The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: Classic Characters essentially evens out the series between Steven Johnson and I, since The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Canadians was the one I did on my own, released way back in March 2003. Officially, I was the editor for Steve’s book, released in May 2025, which updates some stories from SlamWrestling and has some terrific original pieces. For more, see the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame series page.

A Writer’s Writer: The Works of Jamie Melissa HemmingsIn July 2025, A Writer’s Writer: The Works of Jamie Melissa Hemmings was released, just in time for the Celebration of Life of Jamie, in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. Her death in February 2025 rocked the tight-knit pro wrestling writing community.

Heart of the Blackhawks: The Pierre Pilote Story The Red Kelly Story

Let’s call Heart of the Blackhawks: The Pierre Pilote Story and The Red Kelly Story a double play, even if that doesn’t fit the hockey theme. I’d met Waxy Gregoire and David Dupuis through the Society for International Hockey Research and when ECW Press asked me to edit the book on Pilote, I jumped at the chance, and the Red Kelly book followed since we all worked so well together. I have fond memories of getting to know both Hockey Hall of Famers along the way too, and Pierre wrote the foreword to Blue Lines, Goal Lines & Bottom Lines.

Us and Them: Canada, Canadians and The Beatles

Author John Robert Arnone reached out to me out of the blue, as a fan of my work, and asked me to edit what became his self-published book, Us and Them: Canada, Canadians and The Beatles. When it to print, I sent a copy to John Arezzi, who is a huge Beatles fan.

Full Throttle: Passion Comes Standard In Life And Business

Full Throttle: Passion Comes Standard In Life And Business, written by Farid Ahmad and Perry Lefko, tells the story of Farid’s life, from Pakistan to Canada, with a lot of stops on the way in the automobile industry. It isn’t just a story about cars. It’s about life, grit, second chances – and proving that you don’t have to be born into success or the brightest in class to make it big. Be That One: Why Does It Have To Be Someone Else, Why Not Me? book cover

As a big Toronto Argonauts football fan, this was a fun project.

Dan Giancola was a kicker in the Canadian Football League, without ever playing in college, making his story quite unique. Then on top of his time with the Argos, Ottawa Renegades, BC Lions, and even, briefly, with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL, he’s lived a full, complicated life. He teamed with Perry Lefko (who I’ve known for 30+ years) to write his memoir, Be That One: Why Does It Have To Be Someone Else, Why Not Me? It has plenty of ups and downs, and some real health scares too.

Perry and Dan had me put the book together, and then I held Dan’s hand as he launched it on Amazon in November 2023.

Dan has a truly infectious personality, so perhaps it’s best to crib one of his Facebook posts:

Dan Giancola is feeling grateful with Perry Lefko and 9 others at Bto Performance 106 Ormond Street Thorold Ontario

UNCREDITED

By no means am I saying that with these that I was a key part of the process, it’s just that along the way, I was asked for advice and to read what was written. From there, I offered my feedback and thoughts, hopefully helping to create a better book.
